This will be the first year for our Washington State Trail Riders Distance Derby! This virtual horse race is an off-shoot from the original Great Horsetrailriders Distance Derby - the 2012 brainchild of Tammy Vasa, who also authors the wonderful blog resource; www.horsetrailriders.com/
Consisting of horsewomen from the states of Nebraska & Iowa originally, a few riders from other states (16) found the race & wanted to enter. One of the larger groups from Michigan, started their own Distance Derby in 2014 & plan to expand this coming year with a national format.
The second & third year of the Distance Derby morphed & Diane Beckman became the administrator, taking over from Tammy. The name was shortened to the DD2014.
Having ridden in the Derby both in 2013 & 2014, I've really enjoyed the camaraderie & support of the riders I've met through this race. When Diane said she was giving up the Derby for 2015, I played with the idea of starting a Derby for Washington State. With the motivation & help of Amy Lynn Durga, we're both going to take on the challenge!
We're limiting this first season of 2015 to 50 horse/rider teams. That - for the sake of time, since we have yet to know how much work will be involved.
We look forward to a lot of riding, bragging, photos & fun in this group!
